CARVINGS

BRITISH COLUMBIA JADE AND GEMSTONE CARVINGS

Jade carving is a painstaking and exacting art form.  A carver must first "discover the heart of the stone" or, find the strengths and beauty of the stone in terms of color, clarity and patterning.

Due to its toughness, cutting Jade is an extremely arduous process. Fibrous in structure it cannot be cut with tools (such as chisels). It must be ground using very sharp abrasives such as diamonds.

Our team of artisans work with one of a kind pieces taken to completion by one individual artisan from start to finish.

The carvings at Gemstone & Co., Ltd. are made in our own Hung Kown Precious Stone Art Factory.  It is located in the Shunde Daliang District - Daliang, Shunde, Guandong, China.  All carvings are signed by the artisan upon completion of the project.

Nephrite Jade is a silicate of calcium and magnesium.  Historically, Jade is a stone revered by the Chinese for more than 5,000 years.  This stone was used by prehistoric man for tools, weapons and utensils.  Colors of Nephrite Jade range from pure white to all shades of green.

The world's major nephrite productions occurs across the Pacific from gigantic surface deposits of British Columbia.
